OCR: Courage to Hope Responding to AIDS in Rural China Among the 3,300 people who live in Shuangmiao Village, more than 500 are living with HIV. This village has suffered hundreds of AIDS related deaths, leaving scores of orphaned children. "Courage to Hope" tells their stories and how to join the efforts of Global Ministries to respond. The story of Shuangmiao Village first reached the world through a national Chinese television report on World AIDS Day in 2003. The report shared how many villagers became infected with HIV without knowing it. HIV then spread unchecked, in an area where HIV education and prevention and medical infrastructure are sorely lacking. Similar stories are found in many rural villages in other parts of China. As Christians, we are compelled to respond. What can we do to relieve the suffering, care for the children and provide assistance? "Courage to Hope" addresses these questions.
